Scientific context
What is the SpaZeLift?
The SpaZeLift is a space cargo drone whose load-bearing structure (a carbon monocoque, tethers and an anchor module) is manufactured on the moons of Mars. It complements the conventional, fixed space elevator with a mobile counterpart that can be deployed anywhere in the Solar System.

The Mission
Built from raw materials from Phobos and Deimos
These systems, called SpaZeLifts, are manufactured primarily from raw materials sourced from the Martian moons Phobos and Deimos. A key factor is the production of carbon nanotube tethers: extremely strong carbon cables that, because of the length required (several thousand kilometres), can only be manufactured in space. Phobos and Deimos not only contain the necessary raw materials but also offer an ideal and unique production site for the project.
